In the mid and late 19th century, composers such as Berlioz and Wagner extensively used cymbals in their compositions, and not just any cymbals. Indeed, they specifically indicated that only Zildjian cymbals be used. It was during this period that cymbals gained an important and permanent place in orchestras. Inspired by a Turkish tapestry from the same era, these illustrations of percussionist silhouettes celebrate this major milestone.
